States with the most registered sex offenders#
Totals follow population and each state's rules on who must register and for how long, so a larger number does not mean a state is less safe.

How to check for sex offenders near you#
- Search an address. Type a home, school or ZIP code in the search above, or share your location. The map shows registered offenders around it.
- Check the official registry. Each state page links to the state's own search, which is the record of authority.
- Search nationwide. The U.S. Department of Justice runs a national search across state registries at NSOPW.gov.
- Watch the places that matter. In the Warden app you can save places and get an alert when the registry changes around them.
Crime near you#
Registry records are one part of the picture. For police reports and 911 calls block by block, see our crime maps by city.
About these numbers#
Counts are records listed on public state sex offender registries, matched to a ZIP code by the address on the record (snapshot of August 13, 2026). One person can appear at more than one address, some records carry only a ZIP code or a city, and people in custody may be listed at a facility. Names, photos and addresses are never shown on these pages; they stay on the official registries and in the Warden map.
Questions#
Is there a national sex offender registry?
There is no single national list. Each state, territory and many tribes keep their own registry. The Justice Department's NSOPW.gov searches them all at once, and Warden maps the state registries together so you can search by address.
How do I find registered sex offenders near me?
Enter your address or ZIP code in the search on this page, or allow location access. The map opens on that spot and lists the registered offenders around it, nearest first.
Is the sex offender map free?
Searching the map and the counts on these pages is free. Full record details and alerts for the places you save are part of Warden Premium.
What if a record looks wrong?
The state registry is the source of every record. Report errors to the agency that runs it (each state page links to it); Warden updates from the registries on its next snapshot.
